ABOUT THE FOUNDER
I discovered ballet quite late in life.
It wasn't until I graduated University and fell in love with the technical aspect and artistry of ballet. There was something about refining ballet technique through the physical body that kept me fascinated. Like sculpting a sculpture, ballet felt like sculpting the physical body through motion.
I received my bachelor's degree from the University of British Columbia, majoring in Visual Arts. Often taking inspiration from the classical art sculptures and paintings. Through JL G, I'm interested in re-defining what is classical and appropriating it to modern culture.
I hope to merge my passions, honouring the classical traditions and forms of ballet, while bringing a fresh perspective, from my late discoveries of ballet through stylish ballet attire to meet modern society.
Prior to JL G, I had worked in luxury retail, an art gallery, in the film industry and a number of different settings while I gradually spent more and more of my time building JL GAZELLE.
I hope through my experiences to be able to create outfits and garments that will make every dancer of all ages feel inclusive and beautiful wearing JL G.
In 2020, I completed a Technical Apparel Design Diploma with my final project focused on bust-support for ballet leotards.
